Aso-san is topped by one of the world`s largest caldeeras ( circumference 121km !! ) that contains five volcanic cones.

A real hike from Aso train station will easily take you 3 hours or more. So, better opt for the Aso-san bus departing every half an hour from the Aso train station for less than 600 yen then decent on foot.

Cable car is available to take you up to the caldera (less than 500 yen) from the Aso cable car station.

Do not expect much.. the ride is less than 5 minutes.... and they really pack as many people as possible in that old cable car... sardined cable car.. heading for the hot pot !

And you do not expect to see the TV star you have seen too much.
Look at the sign above Yong-sama ,日韓好友のお店 = We are Korean friendly shop.

And i did not hesitate to conquer that rocky 60 degree slope ! Did i lose my mind or what?

Breath-taking. Not the view, but the hike.

Aso town is a ghost town, long left behind by youngster. And, in this ghost town, we found food in portion of ghost meal. Only 800 yen for this super-big portion set, plus free coffee.

Love the fifth picture. It seems as if Aso-san (Volcan-aso???) was a lake thousands of years ago... That’s a beautiful sedimentary rock!

Ghost meal? What do you mean? Too white???

about the term "Ghost meal". I need to explain.
The Chinese celebrate the Hungry GHost Festival, just the like Daimonji Festival, where the spirits of the dead return. During the festival, food, fruits and drinks will be served / displayed in praying altar, in large quantity, to make sure the good and bad spirits will be fed full, and head then head back to their own world without causing trouble to the human world.
