The Shinshu area in Nagano-ken is also called the roof of Japan (also known as the Alps of Japan). With 13,585 km square of mountain range, this place does not only offer endless challenges for mountaineers, but also hundreds ground for skiiing, hundreds of onsens for onsen-enthusiasts and a perfect place for family vacation throughout the year.

This area is usually accessed through Mastumoto city (松本).

Norikura Area I (乗鞍高原)

Norikura platue makes the border between Gifu-ken and Nagano-ken on the west side with heights ranging from 1400 to 1500m.

Norikura Area II (乗鞍高原)



Ichinose Pasture 一の瀬園地. A bit late to enjoy flower blooming in this area, but the cystal clear river meandering through white birches can be quite scenic.
A pasture area, but I didnt see any grazing animal at all.



Lightly vegatated forest near Ushitome pond (牛留池)


牛留池-Ushitome Pond. This pond is famous for its still mirror-like water.
It is most beautiful during autumn.


A less popular pond near Ichinose Pasture.
