Fugu -河豚ーalso known as the putter fish is the only fish forbidden from the Emperor cuisine. This higly toxic fish is highly priced for its tasteless meat, "why" . In Japan, a fugu price can easily fetched up to 5000 yen ( RM 150 ).
Bear this in mind, fugu should only be prepared by licensed chef as its skin, liver, ovari, and testicle are highly poisonous. Any slight mistake will poison other parts of the fish and the lethal meat will kill you within 24 hours.
It is hard to believe that there are some very skillful chef who purposely add a minute amount of the the fugu poison in the serving - normally served in as shashimi , to give the tasteless meat more KICK -the posion will numb the tounge.
Oh no, I will never want to risk my life just to get my tounge numbed..
If u happened to be in Den-den town in Osaka, drop by at the Kuromon market, 黒門市場,as almost half of the shops there are selling fugus, dead and alive.
A famous Kabuki actor, living national treasure died of fugu poison.
He wanted to eat the fugu liver so badly and threatened the chef to prepare that forbidden-by-law serving.
He did not only killed himself after 4 plates of fugu liver but also caused the chef life-time banning of serving fugu.
<<
I cannot see her tonight.
I have to give her up
So I will eat fugu.
>> ....... Haiku Japanese poet Yosa Buson (1716–1783)

Fugu was in fact the most delicious meal I've ever had in Japan. It may have been the price, it may have been the place, it may have been the company, but I cherish Fugu even more than Kobe Beef or Whale meat...
Try it at least once! I promise you won't be disappointed.
I had fried fugu meat...but it was those non-toxic one wor. The weirdest thing I have ever eaten in Japan is still Horse sashimi
