I am never a fan of Korean drama, but after watching My Dearest Kim Sam Soon, I have to admit that, at present,I am addicted to this particular drama ( yet, I do not know if I will watch any other Korean drama. To me, Korean drama is too lengthy, and too many crying scenes)
Sam Soon is not an average Korean girl, you know, thick make-up, slim, slender, and never leave the house without dressing to kill. She is what she really is ! Speak what she feels, eat what she wants and do whatever her heart feels. In another word, she is literally naked- no superficiallity in herself.
" You bastard. I hate you because you are not honest to yourself. Why dont you just say what you feel ? " - to quote a few of Sam Soon's words.
Borned into a not so well-to-do family, she missed all the opportunity to grow like other girls at her age - missing ballet and piano lesson, and even college because her single parent only could afford to pay for the more beautiful elder sister. Poor Sam Soon, not only she missed all the training to become a marketable woman, she is also physically unattractive-chubby, and even has to bear the fact that her name "Sam Soon" is in fact too rustic for Korean !
"My Dearest Sam Soon" is not unlike any "ugly duckling falling in love with a prince" love story-- story line is predictable. But, I guess it is the feeling of familiarity to Korean culture and language that made me spin the DVD to the last one- not that I have lived in Korea or speak Korean, but the Korean culture and language have close similarity to the Chinese and Japanese - the more I watch the more I feel like watching a typical TVB (Hong Kong) drama.
Love, as if there is no heart-break.
Work, as if you are not working for money.
Live, as if today is your last day.
--Kim Sam Soon.

btw, "Kim Sam Soon" is the most search keyword in korean search engine when the drama was released!
why are you writing comments in your own blog?
AL
Hahaha...so the PC and Mac episode is not yet huh?
The Japanese version with "ugly and "fat Sam Soon" is really putting the audience to the challenge on whether they could recognize themselves with such main character.
On the other hand, after I saw the picture of Sam Soon you posted here, I cant believe Koreans are categorizing such type of girl as "chubby"! Do they know what chubby mean?
Haha comment in own blog
AL= I was too lazy to re-edit the post to include the info.
