Heaven of Fruits

One of the fruit stalls in my hometown.

Jack Fruits

Bananas

Pomelo - Chinese grapefruit

Star Fruits

Pineapples

Salak (just happened that these are from Indonesia, but Salak is local). Beside Salak is Limau or local lime.

Papayas

Water Melon with yellow flesh

Mangoes

Mangoes - most probably from Thailand

Jambu Air- I love it with chilies and soy sauce

Giant Bananas- we normally fry it the wheat batter.
Next to the bananas are Soursop-I think it is not local because we used to call it the White-Man Durian- most probably a foreign fruit.

Most Malaysian prefer to buy imported fruits like apples, grapes and oranges because they think that the fruits they eat actually reflects their social status. -- only richer group of the people could afford imported fruits back in the 80's.

Ironically, even a durian or a manggo can cost more than an apple or orange now, the idea of eating imported fruits as a symbol of status still prevail.
